Open Discussions between Grassroots and Candidates for 2007, 2010, 2013 Parliamentary Elections

The open discussion forums aimed to enhance the interaction between the local communities and the candidates for the parliamentary elections. It was always conducted earlier to the elections during the electoral campaigns. This was an exchange of opinions on the public demands and priorities along with discussing the candidates programs and agendas. This also assisted the candidates’ knowledge of public demands and priorities to be able to include it in their programs and agendas. The agenda of the discussion included the presentation of each hosted candidate program, and then an open discussion to the public demands and priorities. The forums were documented and uploaded on YouTube, Facebook and twitter to be available to a larger faction than the attendees. Al-Hayat conducted three rounds of these discussions earlier to the 2007, 2010, and 2013 Parliamentary Elections, with the participation of over 300 candidates for the elections and 6000 citizens, including youth and women. This component was funded over years by the European Union Delegation to Jordan, EUD and the National Democratic Institute, NDI.
