The Women Democratic Empowerment program, funded by the European Union Delegation to Jordan, has as main objective to strengthen the capacity of rural women and female Municipal Members to defend women rights and participation in Jordan. Specifically it aims to do this through a variety of interlinked activities mainly focusing on civic education, networking and lobbying. It is envisioned that through this project, there will be a louder voice and greater backing to advocate for the amendment of such rights and policies discriminating against women. This louder voice will be supported by local civil society organizations (CSOs) who will participate in capacity building workshops offered as part of the program.
Main topics of focus throughout the program’s activities are women rights and specifically the right to political participation, and gender sensitive budgeting. Three research publications will be prepared on these topics, providing a resource for women, CSOs, international organizations, and other stakeholders in their quest to improve local women rights and gender mainstreaming.
This project started on February 1st 2015, and will conclude in May 2017.
